Hoping for a Better Year
Happy New Year!
It looks like the year will end as badly as I had feared. One reason for my belief is that 2009 is ending with the passing of apotentially disastrous health care bill. I fear that this bill will harm all of us who are on Medicare and that it won’t solve the current health care crisis in the USA.
Aside from politics and other matters out of my control, this has been a very rough year for many and I’d love to see a lot of changes in the near future. I like to know that the very young and the elderly are taken care of because they are the most vulnerable citizens. I’d like to see the sense of entitlement that seems to have taken hold among so many of us change to a sense of responsibility and the desire to take care of one another.
I’d like to see the entertainment industry stop putting out games, movies and television shows that endorse and further spread the violence that seems to have encouraged our young people to do horrible things to one another.
I’d like to see our schools go back to what’s important; teaching our children the basics that are necessary to excel in life rather than placing such importance on activities that are substitutes for what should be a good education.
I’d like to see parents spend more time actually talking to their children about the important things in life and instilling a sense of values and morals rather than buying them the latest gadget out of a sense of guilt for not being there for their kids. Wouldn’t it be a wonderful thing if sending nude photos and “sexting” one another were replaced with time spent volunteering to help the needy or studying or just about anything worthwhile outside of self-absorbing activities.
Wouldn’t it be nice if being politically correct was not an issue and that we were to stop using this behavior as an excuse for not telling the truth about how we feel and what we perceive? Since when is it a good thing to censor our honest opinions?
So many issues and so little interest in changing what’s broken here; so few with the courage to step up.
I’d like to see things change in the coming new year, not all at once or even in a perfect way…..just a new beginning with the intention of making this world a better place. Just one step at a time, little by little.
That is all I ask for and hope for. That would mean a very happy new year as far as I am concerned.
