Chinese New Year is a New Year celebrated by the Chinese or Asian community. They share this New Year and some Asian community celebrates them the same month as the Chinese. Chinese New Year is a big holiday in America for Asian American. They do celebrate it widely every year. They celebrate the New Year just like it’s American’s New Year. They do their own things in their own community. The Chinese celebrates the New Year with festival, money exchange, food celebration and get together of family and friends. It’s pretty similar to American New Year. It’s just their way of welcoming the New Year. It falls on the month of February. The date is different for each community. There is the Vietnamese community and then the Chinese community who celebrate Chinese New Year. They celebrate it on different days and they do different things for their own community. The Chinese celebrate it with much more festivals and parties then the Vietnamese do. The Chinese really pride themselves when it comes to Chinese New Year. During Chinese New Year, you will see several Chinese New Year festivals in any city. There will be parades, floats, dragon dances, carnivals, food, and people. If you’re Chinese, you can look for this festival and join them to welcome the New Year. The dragon dance and the carnival with food display is the best of them all when it comes to the festival. The ticket is really low. Most of the time, it’s only around $5. In California, it’s celebrated by students clubs from major university. The festival includes most University and all the events hosted by those Universities. They include dance, food, carnival, promotions, and performances by professional singers.

During Chinese New Year, people will exchange red envelope fills with money. It could be anywhere from a $1 to $100. It’s a sign of good luck. If you want to give something to your Chinese friends, you can give them money in a red envelope. They also give each other flowers and cakes for the New Year. New Year flowers are red or yellow in colors. The Vietnamese use yellow flowers and the Chinese uses some white and red flowers. They also give each other traditional cakes like rice cakes. During the New Year, women wear traditional long dresses. They do this in the US too. It’s optional but most of the time you will see women in long, traditional dresses.
