First of all, you can attend Church services. There, you might meet someone who is spending the holiday alone, also. You can plan to go out to breakfast and visit with them.
You can see if there is a community function in your town, which you can attend. Some towns have special dinners for those who are alone on the holiday.
Go to see a movie. You will be surprised at how many people go to the movies on a holiday. Pick a comedy or some movie that will lift your spirits.
Invite other people who are lonely to your house. Have an open house atmosphere. Bake or purchase some sweets, make a pot of coffee, and enjoy an afternoon with others who do not have anyone. You can invite neighbors in, even those who have families. Remember this does not need to be a dinner, just some cookies and coffee will suffice.
Rent a good movie and invite some friends in to view it with you.
Call some of your out of town friends and visit with them on the phone.
Find a family in your town who might need a little friendship. Visit them either on the phone or in person. They will be grateful for your visit.
Visit a nursing home. Residents often do not have family, and would appreciate someone coming to see them during the holidays.
Don’t feel sorry for yourself. Extend yourself to make the holidays a joyous season, even if your circumstances are not the most joyous.
