Important Celebration Days in India

Certain days are of great importance to the whole country and important days of national celebration.
Independence Day
It is the most important national day of India, the day when India became free. For several years our, Nation was ruled by the British. Several people fought against them to get freedom for India. India became free on August 15, 1947.
Every year August 15 is celebrated as our independence day. The prime minister of India hosts the national flag at the red fort ad then addresses the nation. In schools, children and teachers celebrate Independence Day by hoisting the flag and organizing programs to remember the freedom fighters and the importance of freedom.
Republic Day
A republic is a country ruled by the people, not a king. India became a republic on 26 January, 1950. This is celebrated as republic day every year. After the flag hoisting there is a grand parade on Vijay Chowk in New Delhi. There is a march past by the three divisions of the armed forces- and an air show by the Air force. Folk dancers and school children take part in the celebrations. Decorated floats from each state show the progress made by them in agriculture, industry, society and economic growth. The president of our country takes the salute on republic day.
Gandhi Jayanti
Mahatma Gandhi is called the `father nation’. He fought against the British for our independence. Gandhi was born on October 2, 1869 at Porbandar in Gujarat. Every year his birthday or Gandhi Jayanti is celebrated as a national day. Prayers and Bhajans are offered in his memory.
Teachers’ Day
Teachers’ day is celebrated in memory of Dr.S Radhakrishnan who was our second president. It is celebrated every year on his birthday, which falls on September 5. By celebrating Teachers’ day, we can express our gratitude to our teachers. On this day, the best teachers’ award is given to teachers by the president of our nation.
