For tricky Christmas cards that you don’t know how to fill!

It’s always tough trying to decide what to write on a Christmas card, so I’ve translated a few common blessings into Irish, so that you can personalise your cards with the unique language

1. Nollaig Shona Duit – Merry Christmas

2. Cuimhnigh ar rudaí dea-cuimhneamh, agus déan dearmad ar rudaí b’fhearr dearmad a dhéanamh air – May you remember things worth remembering, and forget things that are better forgotten!

3. Nollaig faoi shéan is faoi shonas duit. – a very Merry Christmas to you

4. Solas réalt Nollaig duit, Teas teach agus teallaigh duit, Sonas agus cairdeas duit, Dóchas chroí leanbh duit, Áthas míle aingeal duit, Grá an Mhac agus síochán Día duit. – May you have the light of a Christmas star, the warmth of a home and hearth, happiness and friendship, the hope of a child’s heart, the joy of a thousand angels, the love of the Son and the peace of God

5. Bhéadh an tsíocháin agus an neart bheith ar an gcéad go doras,agus sonas a threorú tríd d’theach ag an choinneal na Nollag. - May peace and plenty be the first to door, and may happiness be guided around your house at Christmas candle.

6. Tugadh spiorad Nollag síocháin duit, Go mbeadh an úthas na Nollag dochas a thabhairt duit, agus an teas na Nollag a dheonú ghrá duit. – May the Christmas spirit bring peace to you, may the joy of Christmas bring you hope, and the warmth of Christmas give you love.

7. Go mBéadh beannachtaí na Nollag leatsa inniú ‘is go deo – May Christmas blessings be with you today and always

8. Beannachtaí na Nollag agus Bliain Úr faoi mhaise – Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year

9. Ag smaoineamh oraibh um Nollaig – Thinking of you [plural] this Christmastime

[Ag smaoineamh ort um Nollaig - Thinking of you [singular] this Christmastime]

10. Go raibh muid uilig beo ar am seo arís - May we all be healthy and well this time next year.
