Is Halloween an Occasion for Women to Wear Less?
This is just my observation of the selections of female Halloween costumes. Why are majority of them so skimpy?
Halloween is one of my most favorite times of the year. I am always excited to dress up and even more excited to see what others will wear. People get so creative especially when they make their own costumes. I, on the other hand, opt for the store-bought ones. The one thing that bothers me, though, is that when I walk into the stores to select a costume, majority of them are often so short and skimpy? Why is this?
Don’t get me wrong. I do not think that these costumes are demeaning to women nor do I have anything against the women who choose to wear them. Hey, if you’ve got the body, then by all means, flaunt it. And if you have the confidence to wear them, that’s great. But the selections are always the same: short lengths, mostly skirts, and/or a low-cut front that gives opportunity for cleavage exposure. It seems like the more skin showing, the better. Has Halloween become an occasion for women to wear less? Sometimes a lot less? Is it more about sexiness than it is about just dressing up and being creative?
I guess I say this because I am on the conservative side. I admit, though, that I have considered buying one of the skimpy ones a few times in the past, like the French maid or the sexy witch. I figured that I would just blend in with all the other scantily-dressed females. But I always went with something different, like a priest one year, or a little more reserved but creative, like the hippie. Yet, in the midst of skin and cleavage, I often felt like I had too much material on my body. It’s ironic to feel out of place on Halloween.
I am not writing this to prove any point really. I am merely making an observation. It makes me wonder if other women have observed this as well. I guess Halloween is a time when we all can be and dress totally not like ourselves. It gives women a chance to dress in outfits they normally would not wear. After all, it is a choice, and with Halloween, anything goes. Some women go as far as to wear even less than the material of many costumes, which doesn’t give much left to the imagination. I actually applaud them because they have the guts to go out in public with so little on their bodies.
In the end, though, Halloween is all about having fun and being and looking outrageous. Whatever a woman chooses to be, whether it’s a naughty school girl or a demure nun, as long as she is comfortable with herself and having a good time, that’s all that matters.
So ladies, what are YOU wearing this Halloween?
