It is Christmas!

The Christmas bell is ringing in the air waiting for the D day and so you should get ready to join in the Christmas train.

Here comes another Christmas celebration knocking; hurrah! You may say; how time flies. But the truth remains, no two Christmas celebrations are the same. The Christmas celebration this year will obviously wind up the year and to usher in the New Year. It therefore raises new questions as to the true meaning of Christmas. Don’t be taken aback, the true meaning of Christmas may itself be lost in the celebration; the razzmatazz, the euphoria and the pomp and pageantry associated with the entire activity.

The social and societal underpinnings embodied in the entire celebration to say the least, may more often than not, becloud and shift attention from the real thing. We see promises broken, bogus and unrealistic target not met, people doing the unimaginable and embarking on deadly journeys to be part of the whole show.

For the avoidance of doubt, Christmas commemorates the birth of Jesus Christ, the Saviour of the world. Christmas underscores the mystery of God assuming the human form to give greater and lasting meaning to the entire human project. The fact remains that the meaning of Christmas is lost when we double our efforts in perpetrating crime and evils like stealing, cheating, kidnapping, killing, raping, fornication, adultery and other sexual immorality, abortion, divorce, drinking to stupor and getting drunk, lies and maneuvering, fraud, insincerity, betrayal, bribery and corruption etc. the decision to make the most out of this year’s Christmas rests entirely on you.

I repeat: Don’t do anything this Christmas that you will regret in the New Year.

Quotation for the season: “For a Son has been born to us, a Son has been given to us, and dominion has been laid on His shoulder, the name He has been given; Wonder-Counselor, Mighty-God, Eternal-Father, Prince of Peace” (cf. Isaiah 9:5). I wish you the very best of the season and an accident free Christmas. Share the joy around you.
