It’s Christmas
Blog Spot about Christmas.
It’s nine o’clock on Christmas morning. Presents are unwrapped, and the mess is cleaned up. It is just mother and I which is not a bad thing. We have been “Just us” for many years now–a counselor told me once that we were like an old married couple and it’s true. We don’t have sex, but in every other way we do act like an old married couple.
Mom is starting a pair of socks with some of the yarn I bought her for Christmas; we are listening to a Paul Potts CD that she got me. This is one of the best Christmas mornings that we have ever had. A quiet and peaceful morning. I wasn’t sure it would be.
Christmas kind of crept up on us this year. I’m disabled and lost the little job that I had, and the meager income it provided; mom never did have much money, so presents were a little less this year. But what we gave each other was nice and well appreciated, and as an over all season this Christmas has been one of the best. On Christmas Eve day I listened to beautiful gospel carols on the Catholic channel. In the afternoon, after mom got home from work, we watched the midnight mass from the vatican–a beautiful ceremony that reminded us of what Christmas is really all about. We were invited to some friends for dinner and had a wonderful time, and before going to sleep I read the story of the birth of Christ from the book of Luke.
We will bake a chicken and a yam for dinner, and, if it’s Gods will the day will be warm and relaxing and quiet. Some time during the day we will take the dogs for their walk–the boys (my brothers) called a few days ago. Tomorrow is Saturday, and if it is Gods will everything will go back to its regular routine, but today it’s Christmas…
