Jesus Was a Jew
As we celebrate the holiday season, it is important to remember why we celebrate Christmas and the some truths about Jesus.
At Christmas time, a time to celebrate the birth of Jesus, it always surprises me how many people forget one fact: Jesus was Jewish. Every time I look at a nativity scene, it amazes me how Jesus, Mary, and Joseph are always blonde haired and blue-eyed.
Last time I checked, Bethlehem was in the Middle East, not Sweden. Most nativity scenes at least throw in a dark wise man in the mix. I guess it is the crafter’s attempt at keeping it real. Try going into the local store and ask for a nativity scene with a Jewish Jesus. Imagine the looks you would get.
It amazes me how people who believe so much in their faith do not have enough faith to accept that Jesus is not of their own race. Oh, and that Moses did not look like Charlton Heston (blasphemy, I know). I wonder how many people will be amazed when they get to heaven and see that Jesus is not white.
Now, I have one thing to admit. I own a blond hair, blue-eyed nativity scene. It is still special to me, even at a time that I struggle with my faith. Because no matter the race the baby Jesus is in our minds, Christmas is the time to celebrate your faith with friends and family. So I wish everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to those of other faiths. May love, laughter and happiness be with everyone in the New Year.
