Meaningful Gift Giving This Christmas
When giving gifts this year, don’t forget animals in your own home, and all over the world.
In the middle of the frantic rush to buy the ‘perfect gift’ for everyone our our list, we might often overlook our own pets. They are part of the family too, and need to be kept safe amid all of the holiday preparations so that they are not endangered in any way by things like electrical cords, pretty but poisonous plants, or people food left out, such as chocolate or grapes, that can actually kill.
As perilous as the holidays can be for our pets, that is nothing compared with what countless animals are experiencing all over the world at the moment. From the stray dogs and cats who did not ask to be born (we need to cut down on the unwanted pet population globally) to the ‘dancing’ bear trained by making him step on hot metal plates, to the species becoming extinct as a result of loss of habitat or hunting, all of these animals can use our help.
Don’t forget to your nearest local animal shelter. Even if you don’t have a lot of cash, items like old newspapers, towels, dogs toys and leashes can all help these hard-pressed humanitarians aid as many dogs as they can.
Next, let’s look at some species whose time is running out. You can get a fantastic gift for a person on your list and help rescue animals at the same time.
The World Wildlife Fund adopt a species gift ideas lists over 100 species on the seriously endangered or endangered list. You can donate money to sponsor the animal, and your gift recipient will get an adoption certificate and fascination information and a picture about the species of animal being helped.
The higher level of donation will get you all the information, plus a fabulous large (about 10″) plush toy in a gift bag. The toys are great quality and are really accurate in their appearance so far as I have seen from all the the ones I have given as presents so far.
You can sponsor a tiger, snow leopard, snowy owl and more. With so many worthy species to choose from, you will have a really hard time deciding! Best of all, this makes a thoughtful gift for anyone interested in nature, and is ideal for people of all ages, and no matter how well you know their tastes.
