Moon Cake Festival
Moon cake festival is celebrated during the mid-autumn in the Lunar calendar, signifying the middle of the third season.
Children and adults alike enjoy the moon cakes and the story that was from it is such that ancient warriors used a kind of cake to convey messages during the wartime and this is the cake that they created until today, though few thousands years later, the legend passed on, so does the culture and celebration.
We have lantern, and candles, it’s a time nearing fall, something like a gathering, harvesting season. One is always reminded of rest and having a cup for tea with moon cake, while admiring the MOON, what a picture it paints! Preparing to hibernate in the winter, it is also a reuniting season because the moon is always round (full) on this day, signifying the idiom that says: Flower and moon gathering with the people (HUA HAO YUE YUAN REN YI YUAN).
It’s also a time to remember friends and family elsewhere like any Chinese Festival. Being a outstation kid myself, I have always look forward to go back home, perhaps not for the cakes but for the people and the season’s joy and reunion. Look up the Moon; will you see a lady with a rabbit?
Wishing you a well-rounded Mooncake Festival.
