More Retro Toys for Holiday Fun
Relive a Christmas past (or childhood dream) through these classic holiday toys from decades past. From action figures to pocket pets, these must-have items were hot on the lists of countless kids.
Classic toys bring out the kid in all of us — especially toys that hearken back to Christmas lists and busy mornings spent under the tree, looking for that ultimate package. A few must-have items, whether banished to garage sales or making a retail comeback, are worth having today, for both collectors and kids at heart.
My Little Pony
These icons of the eighties and nineties, the My Little Pony figures ranged from scented varieties to winged fairy ponies. No little girl’s dresser was complete without at least one plastic pony with its colorful comb-over mane and signature “tattoo” of cutesy design somewhere on its back.
While neglected as of recent except by garage-sale enthusiasts, the Pony has begun a retail return to popularity, reclaiming a coveted spot on the shelves just in time for the holidays.
Polly Pocket
Mini figures of fun in an oversized compact, Polly Pocket found her way into the nineties play lineup with brightly-colored plastic cases that snapped open to a “world” of fun for the diminutive heroine. Her companions ranged from miniature plastic pets to diminutive friends who snapped into place in the tiny sets, ranging from schoolrooms to houses, to magical parks. The classic plastic play figure even found her way into the holiday kids’ meal toy lineup as an ornament.
Pound Puppies
These sad-eyed hounds were all the rage for eighties kids, with “adoptees” ranging from plush grown puppies to mini editions. Embroidered with the Pound Puppy heart symbol on the rear and equipped with a snapable collar, the doggy choices ranged from wrinkly red hounds to the beloved black and brown spotted doggy.
Soft and cuddly, the huggable pet made a comeback in recent years with mini pocket-sized puppies featuring the same sad-eyed features as the classic choice.
From loveable pooches to miniature spunky heroines, these items were lovingly placed beneath the tree or tucked in the stocking of lucky kids in Christmas past. Relive a little of the magic with modern versions of these beloved toys, or track down a few originals at garage sales, flea markets, thrift stores, and other vintage venues.

Wow! I remember those toys. I wonder how many girls are playing with my little pony these days. I’m sure that some of these toys are being sold today, but I believe that the kids are on to something more advanced.Nice share!
