Like donuts? Good! The first Friday of June is National Donut Day! Today around the world few shops are celebrating with many deals!

  • Dunking Donuts: With a purchase of any beverage, you get a free donut!
  • The Donut Pub: Get a free donut with a purchase of a dozen donuts!
  • Krispy Kreme: For each customer, get one free donut!

Pretty good deals if you ask me!

Fun Facts:

  • On this day, we commemorate the Salvation Army volunteers who braved the front lines in order to provide home cooked foods as a “morale boost” to the soldiers. Back then, the donuts were mostly cooked inside of the metal helmets of the soldiers.
  • American infantryman were often named “Dough boys”, because of their fondness of the dough.

History of the Doughnut:

  • In 1920, Adolph Levitt created the first doughnut machine ever.
  • Originally started during World War 1.
  • In 1847, Hanson Gregory, told his mother to put a hole into the middle of her cakes to ensure that the cake would fully cook in the middle, this is were the hole in the center of the doughnut came from.
  • The Oliebollen, as the people from the Netherlands would say, originated the doughnut from Holland during the sixteenth century.

  • The American population consumes over 10 million doughnuts annually.
  • Canada has the most doughnut shops than any other country!
  • Because people eat so many doughnuts in Louisville, Ky, it is the number one doughnut loving city in the United States.

World Records:

  • Largest Doughnut In The World: American-style jelly doughnut / 1.7 tons / 16 inches high / 16 feet in diameter.
  • John Haight in the Guinness Book World Record? Yeah! Eating 29 doughnuts in just over 6 minutes!

    John Haight in the Guinness Book World Record? Eating 29 doughnuts in just over 6 minutes! Wow thats alot of donuts! Anyone here think they can eat more than 29 donuts? haha
