Nevada University to Observe Hindu Festival Diwali

Diwali is festival of lights and joy. Students of Nevada university are going to revel in it.

Nevada: The University of Nevada-Reno has decided to observe Hindu Festival of Lights Diwali on its premises on October 30.

Diwali is observed by the Hindus the world over on a grand scale. Women decorate their homes with a series of lights while children burn crackers. The university has been observing this festival every year, as it has many Indian students.

According to Dharshimi Balasubramaniam, President of the of the student association that would organize the festival said Hindu statesman Rajan Zed would open the festival with prayers and lighting of lamps famous musician Jim Eaglesmith would give a concert on the occasion.

The student leader said that the festival would last for four hours and hundreds would participate in it. Folk and classical dances, Indian fashion show, songs, music and specially prepared Indian vegetarian dinner would be the attractions on the occasion. He said the purpose of the festival was to keep the Indian culture intact and showcase to the Americans. University of Nevada-Rene has 18,000 students and there are hundreds from other countries.
