The lunar new year is approaching, this year is a little different from the previous years.
Since young my favourite festival was the lunar new year. This is because it is a time all the family members take time off their busy schedule to come together to have a reunion dinner. For Family and friends, we would also find time to meet up. And the unmarried and young one would get “ang Pow” or red packet filled with money. The is blessing given by the elders to the younger ones for the rest of the years.
My childhood was filled with happy memories of Lunar new year, as the relatives get togather, it is also time for the children to have a fun filled, laughter filled holiday. Oh how I long for this day to come every year.
This year however it is probably the quietest I would encounter, because both my grandmother, who has be the glue for the respective families pass aways within a year of each other. My paternal grandmother pass away in Oct two years ago and my maternal grandmother last year also in Oct. I am not sure what kind of New Year we would be celebrating with. I just hope at least the generation after us would still be able to enjoy a little of the festival.
While some of the cousin have agreed that we would meet up as often as we can but without the glue that bind the family, the effort is going to be twice as hard. But I do hope that at the end of the day we could achieve it. I hope that it will happen.
Before I end off, I hope that you would have a great year in the year of the water Dragon.
