New Year’s Resolutions, New Year’s Tradition
Each of us makes a resolutions every year and each of us have our own traditions in celebrating the coming of the new year.
At the beginning of every year, it has been normal that each person prepares a resolution. A resolution is a commitment, a goal an individual make at the beginning of each year. And then at the end of the year, you get to check if the individual has achieved its goal or not.
So I have made my own resolution for this coming year and let me give you a pick into some:
- I will make it into a goal that I will lose weight. I will exercise at least three times a week and have a healthy diet.
- I will make it into a goal to drink lots of water.
- I will make it into a goal to save money.
That’s just three in my list of my resolutions that I promised myself to accomplish. What about you? Do you also have a list of what to accomplish this coming year?
Growing up in the Philippines, I have noticed that we have certain traditions that we do as we enter into the New Year. Let me share to you some of them:
- Wear anything polka dots or anything that has circles printed in your clothes. This circles represents money, I guess it means that you will be prosperous for the coming year.
- Jump. For the children or the height challenged people, Jumping when the clock strikes 12 means that you grow taller. I have been jumping every year, I am still height challenged, but then it is in my genes.
- For the Buena de Noche, most family prepares their tables with all the round food they could find. From orange to grapes because round means money and that people believed that if you start your table with lots of round food then the year will be prosperous.
- Coins are scattered every where in the house. This has always been a fun part because its likes hunting for eggs during easter.
There are many more traditions that we Filipinos have as we meet the New Year. And it is always fun to remember them. But I am pretty sure that in other cultures, they also have ways of their own. Happy New Year everyone.
