Peppermint Treat for the Holidays

Super Yummy Ice Cream.

December rolled in very quickly that it’s as if the days are just fleeting hours until Christmas Day finally approaches. Once again, it’s the time for colourful decorations, weeklong parties, reunion with family and friends, surprised gifts and of course the license to indulge in cholesterol and sugar-rich foods which are so irresistible this Holiday Season. Anyway, what would be a Filipino Christmas celebration without the presence of mouth-watering and weight-inducing dishes generously served at every Christmas occasions, from Christmas parties to Media Noche until Noche Buena on New Year’s Eve?

Indeed, the Christmas celebration is truly unique in this part of the world, more colourful, livelier and more delicious. In celebration of this Holiday spirit, Dairy Queen once again offers its Christmas favourites with the addition of a delightful cake variety inspired by one of their best selling Blizzard.

Peppermint Delight

In a drizzling afternoon at its Robinson Galleria’s “treat centre” DQ allowed members of the press to be the first to sample its seasonal offerings, the return of the Yule Flip Peppermint Chip Blizzard and its ice-cream inspiration, Yule Flip Peppermint Chip Blizzard Cake, Mocha Mint Cholocate and the all time favourite Dilly Bar, this time shaped as a Christmas tree and infused with the flavours of Mint Chocolate.

I was first told to order a hotdog to break the saccharine domination on my taste bud which I was about experience. I opted for DQ’s Triple Cheese Hotdog because I thought it was the perfect contrary to the sweetness and I’m glad I did, otherwise I won’t be able to finish tasting the four variants.

First, the Yule Flip Peppermint Chip Blizzard, which is already a Christmas favourite in the Untied States, was served to us with the signature serving of turning it upside down. The cool aroma of peppermint and chocolates alone can already stir up the senses. Once inside the mouth, the flavours of vanilla, peppermint candy pieces and chocolate chunks creates a dream-like experience which took me back to the Christmases of my childhood with memories of chillier nights and relatively better times. The cool sensation brought by peppermint candies travels all the way to the nostrils which refreshes the feeling as it fills up your stomach.

Next was the Yule Flip Peppermint Chip Blizzard Ice Cream Cake which can pass as a regular fancy cake but we were quickly told that no, there’s not a single amount of flour on it, it’s purely ice cream, from the elaborately decorated icing to the insanely delicious center filled with chocolate fudge, peppermint candies and chocolate chunks. Now, if that’s not enough for chocolate addicts, the ice cream cake was topped with more chocolate chunks, and glazing on the side. Surprisingly, the Peppermint Chip Ice Cream is not as sweet as the Blizzard, thanks the concentration of the flavours at the centre of the cake.

And finally, the Mocha Mint Moolatte, a merry mix of Columbian coffee, chocolate, mint, vanilla soft serve and whipped cream for coffee lovers who craves for the taste of the season on their drinks. Enjoy it with DQ’s Classic, Pepperoni and Mozzarella or Chilli Meat Hotdogs and you will certainly feel the spirit and taste of Christmas.
