Popular Halloween Costumes
Summary of a Halloween event for kids, and some popular Halloween costumes for 2009.
As I walk across the street to the mini mall, I notice a crowd of people as well as Halloween props organized for people to pose and take pictures. To the left side, beyond the crowd, there is stage and a large blue-tinted picture of a haunted house. The large picture also has a black iron fence, branches of leafless trees with swampy seaweed-like stuff hanging off them, a full moon and a bat. I buy a glass of icy green tea with aloe vera and lychee, and I have a seat among the crowd, waiting for the Halloween parade and contest to begin at 3:00 pm. The contest is for kids between the ages of one to twelve, but certain age groups are grouped together, and each group parades onto the stage with their age groups.
I look around, checking out the many kids and their costumes. I see superheros, a milk carton, werewolf, princesses, Harry Potter, ladybugs, policeman, astronaut, angels, fairies, cowboy, Winnie Pooh, turtle, ninja, Tigger, pirate, Einstein, ghosts, Isis, egyptian, witch, cheerleaders, WM Truck, giraffe, skeleton, Chinese dragons, fireman, knight, Fred Flintstone, Abe Lincoln, dracula, and a soccer ball. Just from browsing at the crowd, the best costumes that I noticed are the Werewolf, WM Truck, Dracula, Einstein, and Milk Carton.
The first group, ages ranging from one to two years old, are carried onto the stage, and a parent walks across the stage, stands for a couple of minutes before walking off to the other end of the stage. Soon afterwards, the second and first best are chosen for cutest, most original and scariest.
The 2nd best for cutest is a giraffe, while the 1st best is the lion. 2nd best for most original is the lobster, while 1st best is Einstein. And, the 2nd best for scariest is a ghost, while the 1st best is a green monster.
By the DJ, in front of me, who is playing music and narrating the contest, there are some young kids dancing in their costumes as he plays music and songs.
Three to Four-year-olds walk onto the stage and stand there for a couple of minutes. They walk off at the other side of the stage. The best costumes are called back. The 2nd best for cutest is a cheerleader, while the 1st best is a ladybug. The 2nd best for scariest is Darth Vader, while the 1st best is a pirate. The 2nd best for most original is a birthday cake, while the 1st best is a WM Truck.
Five to Six-year-olds take their turn on the stage. And, the 2nd and 1st best costumes are called back to the stage after the judges have picked the best. The 2nd best for cutest is a bride, while the 1st best is Little Bo Beep Shepherd girl. The 2nd best for most original is a Nascar driver, while the 1st best is a matador. The 2nd best for the scariest is a GI Joe Cobra, while the 1st best is a werewolf.
The oldest group, ages ranging between seven to twelve, walk on the stage and then disappear on the other side. Six are called back to the stage, ten minutes later. The 2nd best for cutest is a cheerleader, while the 1st best is a gingerbread house. The 2nd best for scariest is dracula, while the 1st best is the Evil Magician. The 2nd best for most original is a clown, while the 1st best is Abe Lincoln.
After the Halloween parade and contest, it cools down and the sky starts to get dark. I hang out for a little bit longer, chatting with someone I had met earlier. At 7:00 pm, I decide to walk back home.
