Carving pumpkins for Halloween.

The great thing about carving pumpkins is you can carve anything into them that you want. You just got to use your imagination. Although people buy pumpkins up then carve them up for Halloween, and then they get tossed in the trash it is fun. You could almost do anything if you put your mind to it right? Right!!! So come on people what kind of imaginations do you have.

What most people don’t know about what we call Halloween. Halloween is a time for dressing up and parting and for the kids to gather as much candy as they can. But Halloween is actually an old Celtic holiday known as Samhain(Sow Wan). Which means summers end. It started October 31st at sundown and went through November 1st sundown. It was a holiday for celebrating the passing of loved ones.

Yeah the spider looks pretty easy huh. How about this next one. Halloween really didn’t start off big until the late 1800s and it was a hit every since. The carving of pumpkins originated in Europe.

Pumpkins are not vegetables but are actually fruits.

Carving a pumpkin the choices are unlimited. You just got to know what you want to do. As a kid all we really ever did was the faces, but I guess these days they take pumpkin carving to the extreme.

The legend of Jack-o_lantern starts off as a talk of ole Stingy Jack who was having a drink with the devil. Well when Jack refused to pay his half of the bill he convinced the devil to turn himself into a coin. Well once in that form Jack put him in his pocket and had a cross in his pocket also. Which made the devil completely powerless. Before Jack released him he made the devil promise not to take his soul. There you have the history of Jack-o-Lantern. Whats that got to do with pumpkins? Well in Scotland and Ireland they started carving faces into all kinds of vegetables to keep ol Jack away and other spirits too. When it arrived in the USA they found that pumpkins were the best to carve in.
