Ransom Note

A true story about a murder of a six year old girl set upon the longest investigation ever recorded in history. The killers are never found.

In closing I have a thought about John Ramsey. I am pretty confident that neither he nor Patsy killed Jonbenet. But I will say this, if the only thing that stood between me and figuring out who killed my daughter is determining who wrote the ransom note, I believe that after 10 years I would have been able to figure it out or at least have a strong feeling of who wrote it. This killer was sending John a direct message at the end of the note, a message that he believed only he and John would understand. I don’t want to say the “c” word, that would be to strong a word, maybe I’m just saying that I would have figured it out but John just can’t. As strange as this case is, I truly believe that it gets stranger. There is something going on here that I will admit I am not able to put my finger on yet.”

Boulder’s district investigators obtains DNA samples from the Ramseys and offers a formal apology to the Ramseys as under:

“This new scientific evidence convinces us…to state that we do not consider your immediate family, including you, your wife, Patsy, and your son, Burke, to be under any suspicion in the commission of this crime.

… The match of Male DNA on two separate items of clothing worn by the victim at the time of the murder makes it clear to us that an unknown male handled these items. There is no innocent explanation for its incriminating presence at three sites on these two different items of clothing that JonBenét was wearing at the time of her murder. … To the extent that we may have contributed in any way to the public perception that you might have been involved in this crime, I am deeply sorry. No innocent person should have to endure such an extensive trial in the court of public opinion, especially when public officials have not had sufficient evidence to initiate a trial in a court of law. … We intend in the future to treat you as the victims of this crime, with the sympathy due you because of the horrific loss you suffered. … I am aware that there will be those who will choose to continue to differ with our conclusion. But DNA is very often the most reliable forensic evidence we can hope to find and we rely on it often to bring to justice those who have committed crimes. I am very comfortable that our conclusion that this evidence has vindicated your family is based firmly on all of the evidence.”

Stan Garnett planed to give a fresh start at the case. He began to gather evidence.

February 2 2009

Boulder chief police Mark Brekner says “Garnett is going to turn the case over to his agency and the team would resume investigating the homicide” he added “some cases never get solved but some do and you can never give up”. Garnett started looking at the evidence of the case.

October 5 2010

The Jonbenet’s investigation was reopened. The FBI was expected to use their latest DNA technology in the investigation.

John Ramsey was one day sitting reading the newspaper. He says “that ransom note may not be useable again since the handwriting of people change”. Patsy goes to a room where she managed to meet with her daughter for the first time in fifteen years. Patsy asked “what happened to you?” Jon replied “father Christmas visited me after Christmas” Patsy asked “he visited you here?” Jon says “he bought me here” Patsy says “from where did he take you?” Jon says “from the basement of your house”.
