Soldier’s Christmas Wish

Soldier’s Blog Post:
I’ll admit to it, I can be a bit of a scrooge this time of year, which is really strange because it never was the case just years ago. it seems that anymore the holiday season is stressful and depressing. people are acting like retards because of christmas shopping (which i will get back to) and the radio is playing all the silly christmas songs over and over.
Don’t get be wrong, i love xmas tunes. and you would think that since music is a big thing to me, that it would be the one thing that could help. but why must they play every song that involves rudolph and completely look over songs like silent night (personal favorite), white christmas, or even the away in a manger? although i did hear the christmas guest by reba mcentire the other day, it has been the first xmas tune on the radio i have listened to this year.
I believe in xmas shopping less and less each year with all the adds on tv on how “walmart makes christmas cheaper” and the stupid rush on black friday. Is this what christmas has become? people always say that they know that it isn’t what xmas is about, but i think its just air. you know what i would probably consider the best xmas gift i have ever recieved? A wooden barn that my dad made me when i was like 3 or 4 years old its about 4 feet long and is a perfect toybox. I really hope that someday i will get to see a son of my own play with it. And while im on memories, do you want to know what the most memorable xmas that i have had was? 2007 when nobody came down because of the snow and it was just me, sue, rory, and randy. We decided to hell with it, we were going to celebrate christmas. We really did make the best of it.
the other day I was talking to laura and she told me that she didn’t know what to get me for christmas since i was leaving right after for boot camp. I don’t think that she beleaved me much when i told her to write me a letter. but its the truth. not only is a letter treated like gold to the soldier, but there is so much thought that has to go into one, let alone the fact that you have to sit down and put pen to paper. but anyways the fact is that not only do i not need anything for christmas, but i don’t want anything either. I take that back, i do want something. I want to see my family smiling around a table while someone says grace. I wan’t to see my little sister make it home. I want to see my oldest sister, bill, and my three nephews. shoot, i would love to see all of us kids together again for a christmas. I want to go caroling. I want to meet someone under the mistletoe…
I just really wish that people would treat christmas as it should be.
Liked it
