Solitude Can be Soothing for The Soul
Do you have to spend the holiday season by yourself? Turn that solitude into something soothing instead of depressing!
Many people find themselves spending the holiday season alone. For some this can lead to a medical condition called depression. Spending time in solitude does not need to end in tragedy; you can turn that time alone into soothing soul searching solitude.
Here are five ideas to get you started.
Treat Yourself
1) Take a long hot organic bubble bath, surrounded by lightly lit candles to dim the lighting in the washroom. Please be careful not to fall asleep with the candles, and watch them closely.
2) Rent a few of your favorite movies and snack on chocolate covered fruit. If money is an issue renting movies then ask your local church, friends or family if you can borrow a few. If that is not available, many Christmas programs are on local television.
3) Buy a book you have wanted to read and spend time reading it. You do not need to spend a lot of money doing this. You can shop for a book second hand, or ask some friends, neighbors or local churches for some books.
Get Creative in Eco Style
1) Start an environmental craft using recycled products, recycled paper, and reuse items you have at home.
2) Write a letter to a friend you have not spoken to in a long time and use recycled paper, and make your own eco stationary by using henna dye.
3) Start your own journal.
4) Go through some old photographs and place them in albums. You can find albums at local second hand stores too.
Just Relax
Take a nap or sleep, curl up on your bed or snooze on your couch with a comfortable throw.
Reach Out in Person
1) Contact a local church in your area and attend a service. You might be pleasantly surprised of where this can lead too.
2) Volunteer your time at an organization that is looking for some help.
Get Some Exercise
If winter is the type of weather you are blessed with, make sure you dress warmly and appropriately and watch the weather to make sure it is acceptable conditions.
1) Grab a toboggan and slide down a hill.
2) Build a snowman.
3) Go for a brisk walk.
4) Visit your local recreational center and go for a swim. Most recreational centers have pools, saunas and hot tubs available to use.
If you live in a warmer area find a suitable physical activity for your region.
Most of us take for granted time alone. As a busy mother, writer, wife and business owner, as much as I enjoy the chaos, what I would do for one evening I wrote about above.
Take this time of solitude to embrace your soul!
