Thanksgiving Games

Games that are good on Thanksgiving.

In a couple of days, that wonderful, food-filled holiday will be upon us. Thanksgiving is the day that we give thanks to God for every good thing He has provided for us. We celebrate by gorging ourselves on turkey, sweet potatoes and cranberry sauce, and often visiting relatives. So what about having some games this Thanksgiving? (…assuming you have enough energy after gulping down six platefuls of stuffing…) Well, here are a few activities, and most of them don’t even require standing up! The younger thankful people among us can do the stand-up games.

It’s a Turkey Hunt: OK, most likely appeals to little kids, and happens before Thanksgiving dinner. Hide the turkey somewhere, and let the kids hunt for it. Of course, they would probably prefer the sweet-potato marshmallows better, but we will just say turkey right now. Who cares if the Pilgrims weren’t pirates: make the kids a treasure map that leads them to different locations, each with a different clue. Trust me, they’ll love it.

Word searches: Nobody said the games couldn’t be educational. Give the kids a bunch of Pilgrim, Native American and Feast related words and let them decipher them from a word-search. They love it, get smarter, and are kept occupied all at the same time. And of course, to keep them interested, promise the first one done a prize (marshmallows or iPhones work pretty well).

Computer games: OK dads, I hear you. You just want the quickest indoor-game that keeps the kids occupied and is exciting enough that you need to “show them how it works”. I introduce Turkey Attack, located at UltimateArcade.com (full link here: http://www.ultimatearcade.com/game/turkey-attack). This is an arcade-style first-person shooter where you shoot turkeys as they come running toward you. Kid-friendly graphics, hilarious “gobbling” noises, and an all-around good time.

Well, that’s about it. I hope you have a great thanksgiving, and I hope you are thankful for this list!
