Thanksgiving Travel Tips
Planning on traveling to grandmas this thanksgiving? Read on for a few tips.
Do your plan on traveling this Thanksgiving? Think you’re prepared? Well here are a few tips and hints, for the “just in case” of traveling on this holiday. First up, a few tips if you are traveling by car.
#1. Fill up the night before, and save money. Even with gas prices dropping just in time for holiday traveling, it is still important to save money on gas. Visit the website gasbuddy.com, and search for the cheapest gas in your area. At Walmart stores, if you go inside and buy a gift card, you will save 3 cents on each gallon. Also If you fill up at night, there is less of a chance that gas will evaporate, and more will actually get in your car.
#2. Bring something for the kiddos to do. No matter if they are toddlers or tweens, kids can get bored easily. Having an activity that the whole family can get involved in, can be a lifesaver on car trips. Try bringing coloring books and crayons, paper and pens, favorite books, or DVD’s. Also if you have quite a way to go on your trip, packing along a few snacks will make your trip easier. Just remember to leave room for all of that good food at Grandma’s house.
#3. Be careful, and watch the weather. Snow, icy streets, and rain, are all winter related weather mishaps that could affect your Thangsgiving holiday. Even if you know how to drive in these conditions, don’t simply assume that other do too. What would happen if you couldn’t get to your destination because of weather? Make sure you have a plan just in case. Be sure to always have a safety kit in your car for emergencies, as well as blankets, and a few bottled waters as well.
Now, for a few tips regarding air travel.
#1. Be sure to pack your patience. If there is one thing we have all learned, from watching the news, is that flying on a plane these days can be frustrating. Long waits, security rules, and crowds, are just a few of the things you will have to contend with this holiday season. Just remember to be patient, nice, and courteous, every one there is in the same boat you are.
#2. Check and follow the rules. After the horror of September 11, airports became much stricter on what passengers could bring onto the plane with them. The current rule is 3-1-1. Three ounces or smaller of liquid and gels, one quart size, clear plastic bag per person, and one bag per person in the security bin. Check the rules the airline you are flying with has, and remember to follow them.
#3. Bring something to pass the time. As mentioned above, there will be very long lines at the airport. You might also end up having layovers, or waiting on the plane. Especially if traveling with children, try bringing books, hand held video games, and make sure your cell phone, or blackberry is charged up. Thinking ahead could make the difference, between hearing “I’m bored” and peaceful quiet,
Hopefully these tips help you get to your destination safe, and happy. Have a great Thanksgiving everyone!
