The Best Christmas Songs of All Time

There are so many classic Christmas songs or Christmas carols, and everyone seems to have a favorite. I did some research into this matter and conducted what would be considered by most to be less than a scientific survey to find the one song that is “BEST-EVER CHRISTMAS SONG.”

It is that time of year again when we start to hear Christmas songs. Some of us welcome them, while others detest hearing them over and over.  By the time December 25th gets hear there will be people rebelling and on the verge of pulling out there hair, but unless you are the reincarnation of EbeneezerScrooge and the Grinch rolled up in one cantankerous being you probably have your favourite Christmas song.

In an effort to find out what that one song might be I conducted a casual survey of persons who I knew didn’t have green skin and hated Christmas.

Being the sports fan that I am I decided to use a format similar to what is used in College Basketball playoffs, but on a much smaller scale.

I first had to determine a workable number of songs that would be in the running for the title BEST-EVER.

I came up with eight songs.

1 :  White Christmas – Bing Crosby.

2 :  Let It Snow Let It Snow - Dean Martin.

3 : Blue Christmas – Elvis Presley.

4 : I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa - The Ronettes.

5 : Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas – Rosemary Clooney

6 : Silent Night - Stevie Nicks

7 : Winter Wonderland - Doris Day

8 : The Christmas Song – Nat King Cole.

Then I decided to pair the eight songs and have them (play) each other.  The matchups were as follows:

Game 1 White Christmas – Bing Crosby vs. Let It Snow Let It Snow - Dean Martin.

Game 2 : Blue Christmas – Elvis Presley  vs. I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa - The Ronettes.

Game 3 : Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas – Rosemary Clooney  vs. Silent Night - Stevie Nicks

Game 4 : Winter Wonderland - Doris Day  vs. The Christmas Song – Nat King Cole.

So far so good.  Now I had to find a way to allow people to vote on these four matchups to determine winners that would then advance to the next round of competition.  I decided to use my e-mail contact list and canvas as many of those people as possible to help me get to that final goal: BEST-EVER CHRISTMAS SONG.

The results in ROUND ONE were as follows:

1. White Christmas – Bing Crosby

2.  Blue Christmas – Elvis Presley

3. Silent Night - Stevie Nicks

4. The Christmas Song – Nat King Cole.

On to ROUND TWO and the matchups.  Voting started to get more intense.

Game 5: White Christmas – Bing Crosby vs. The Christmas Song – Nat King Cole.

Game 6:  Blue Christmas – Elvis Presley  vs.  Silent Night - Stevie Nicks

After that second round it was narrowed down to WHITE CHRISTMAS and BLUE CHRISTMAS with one of my friends mildly protesting from the beginning that Frosty The Snowman should have been on the original list.  I think at least one of my funny friends merely voted for colors.

Now what has tragically happened since having my friends cast their ballots on the final pairing, a tremendous gust of wind came across my desk and I have lost the results.

So, I am asking for everyone’s help to vote on the final matchups in the pursuit of naming the BEST-EVER CHRISTMAS SONG.

GAME SEVEN : White Christmas – Bing Crosby vs.    Blue Christmas – Elvis Presley

Please leave a comment to cast your vote, tell your friends, but by all means have a Very Merry Christmas!!!!

Right now my favorite Christmas Carol is Silent Night by Susan Boyle. I got the CD yesterday and it is the most beautiful version I’ve ever heard.

Very Merry Christmas to you too!

I always liked Silver Bells, I don’t know who it’s sung by.

Susan Boyle’s version of Silent Night does deserve to be on the list. No doubt about that!
