The Cause for Claus

Real or imaginary? Does it matter?

The stories continue regarding his transformation from Sinter Klaas to the bearded, happy, jolly old gentleman we now know as Santa Claus.  He holds a huge legacy, but the message of his existence still remains—to be charitable at the Holy season of the year.  For that reason, many years ago, I took on the role of a makeshift Santa by providing toys each Christmas to underprivileged children with special needs.  Many of their families, because of necessary therapies, can’t provide gifts, and each year, I adopt three or four families to show them the love of Christ through a simple Santa Claus tradition—secret gift giving.

So what does Santa Claus have to do with the worship of Jesus Christ and the reminder of Him we know as Christmas?  Just about everything.  Jesus asked us to give our neighbor a cup of cold water on a hot day, or the cloak off of our back, if he was in need.  Through our donations at Christmas, through the joy of giving through an event like the Salvation Army Angel Tree and in the spirit of Santa Claus, we give from our hearts because God commands us to, in honor of Jesus.

Children find it difficult to understand life’s pressures and the redemption of Jesus Christ.  But they are so accepting of a friendly, jolly, white bearded man we know as Santa Claus.  A figment of our imagination?  Maybe so, but if it brings love, generosity and human kindness—as well as a smile on to a child’s face–what’s  the harm?

I’m a Christian Author:  Not only an author who is a Christian, but one who writes Christian literature.  I will continue to display my happy collection to remind me that nothing in this world is worth frowning for.  Can you imagine what the world would be like if we kept the Spirit of Christmas in our heart all year long?
