The Purpose of Celebrating Christmas
It’s something very spectacular to note the purpose of Celebrating Christmas. Let’s carefully examine the fact here.
Preamble
It’s a remarkable time for the entire Christendom when they celebrate the birth of the prince of peace, the Christ Jesus. The aim of this article is to rekindle the minds of people in question on the expected propose of Christmas and how best to share the joy of Christ Jesus born to the world.
Definition of Christmas
Christmas has been an annual event celebrated on the 25th day of December. It is a time for sober reflections among the followers of Christ Jesus (Christians). This time/date is set by the early Roman Catholic Church as gotten from the Catholic world website as a time to celebrate the birth of Christ. The Christmas season is ushered after the few weeks of ADVENT, which means the coming of Christ Jesus. There are four Sundays in Christmas starting from the 25th December. Christmas ends with the presentation of the child Jesus in the temple.
Celebrating Christmas
Christmas is celebrated by almost every body and mostly felt by the believers of Christ Jesus. It is a blissful moment that has special impact in the lives of Christians. Meanwhile there are many ideas around the celebration. Because of the euphoria created by wealth and pleasure many have misinterpreted Christmas celebration. A lot of people would have it as time for great pleasure and merriments not minding the moral implications. We may have read from the world library about the day of Christmas as a day set aside to adore of a goddess but then it has noting to do with the time for Christmas. The Christmas being the birth of Christ has brought light to the world and thus had chased away spiritual darkness by the devil. In the same vein, the light of Christ Jesus in his people provides powerful protection against darkness. On that I conclude that Christmas celebration is for all who welcomes the light of Christ Jesus and that any other celebration contrary to the purpose of Christmas during this period does not have any thing to do with Christmas.
Purpose of Christmas
It’s very clear and concise when stated that Christians celebrates the birth of Christ Jesus who died few thousand years ago. For the fact that he died for the sins of the world and resurrected as foretold by the scripture, he is thus adored and glorified forever. One of these great remembrances is the Christmas period. Other periods from the church calendar are the LENTEN period – time to remember the passion of Christ Jesus, EASTER – time He rose from the dead, ASCENSION – time when Jesus ascended into heaven, and ADVENT – when Christians prepared for the coming of Christ Jesus. Christmas is never coined to be a social event but rather is an event in the Christian liturgical calendar to be commemorated and celebrated by those who love Christ Jesus.
What to do on Christmas feast?
Party galore goes around the various places of the world but the most important and significant role to play is almsgiving, care and love for the unknown and the less privileged in the society. It is a time for change of heart and forgiveness of wrongs deeds by those who offend us. In the same vein, it is a time to change from bad to good. Gift are exchanged by friends and families, YES! But assuming I give a friend $3,000 and he/she in turn gave me a price or prices worth almost the same amount of money which I gave to him/her, then it means something like 2-1 = 1. But if I have packaged unexpected gift to someone who is so much in need then it means something like 2-0 = 2. Taking a look at this will tell you who gains more. This is an important fact to hold on.
Conclusion
Christmas is an annual feast celebrated every year in the entire Christendom as the commemoration of the birth of Christ Jesus. It has no social attachment but spiritual. Christmas should be respected by Christians as a time for sober reflection instead of other distractive events contrary to the original meaning as set by the church.
