The Twelve Blogs of Christmas, Day Ten
Boxing day has arrived and it seems to be quiet a pleasant day though still minus outside and very slippy.
The more eagle eyed of my followers will see that on the 20th December I had two blogs published, It seems a fitting illustration that at this time of year one day seems to blend seamlessly into another.
Well it’s boxing day today and that means buffet day usually, however the flu is doing it’s rounds and so we will not be going anywhere to be entertained nor indeed doing any entertaining, having said that I still have four children at home and of course my Wife and I so I prepare a boxing day buffet of a less grander scale but still including the favorite delicacies that I prepare every boxing day.
One of my annual creative culinary inventions is a smoked Salmon and prawns Marie rose, Another is a white wine, garlic and cream sauce into which I have put garlic buttered mushrooms, both make ideal fillings for Vol-au-vents. I have also prepared some Cajun drumsticks along with the annual boozy trifle. there are a number of other plain fair attractions like sausage rolls, pork pie and a home made egg mayonnaise. All rounded with a salad.
Only myself and my older son like smoked salmon which strikes me as a little odd, It is my long held suspicion that some people claim to dislike a food having never even tried it. This is especially so in the case of smoked Salmon as to the eye and indeed in fact it is ostensibly a raw fish and with the exception of sushi, one would not normally eat raw fish. I only eat smoked salmon at Christmas or weddings etc so I do appreciate that it is a luxury food that I would not normally eat.
I am in some respects sorry that I will not be having guests this boxing day as I do enjoy the entente cordial but at the same time I have less in the way of work in the kitchen and less in the way of tidying up afterwards so it is a blessing of sorts.
Another of my gifts this Christmas was a larger version of my existing Nintendo DSi, I do have slightly impaired vision and yet like to do Brain training so that I do not get to academically addled as I sail towards and through middle age. The New DSi is called the Nintendo DSi XL and sports a larger screen that makes it much easier for me to do my crosswords and sudoku puzzles on it.
Wishing those have that stuck with me on this blog all the very best , only two more days to go and my 12 Blogs of Christmas will reach their conclusion.
Something that I have learned from reading antiquated articles and books on my pocket reader is that I find myself interested material that was written a long time ago as they provide incite the real lives of people in a different time. we get a vivid snap shot of events long since passed via first hand accounts. Doubtless at the time of writing, these events were fresh in every ones memory but they gain a certain a richness in the passing of the years. Maybe in years to come this drab and often commonplace blog will provide such a snap shot for those yet to be born.
