The Worst Halloween Candy to Find in Your Bag

by Videomark in Holidays, October 5, 2009

One of the great adventures of childhood is trick-or-treating. The thrill of discovering what treasures were in your bag would lead you to dump out your bag as soon as you arrived home. The varieties of candy seemed limitless, but there were always a few that would bring a huge groan.

  • Candy Corn – It’s amazing how long this product has been around. It’s synonymous with Halloween, yet I personally don’t know anyone who likes it.
  • Necco Wafers – Thin discs with a chalky taste that you forget how bad they are until you put them into your mouth. I finally wised up after a few times.
  • Butterscotch Candy – I never liked butterscotch. I tried to trade them with the other kids, but none of them would comply.
  • Black Licorice – The taste would stay with me long after the candy was gone. The red licorice was not too bad, but I stayed far away from the black.
  • Dark Chocolate – I love chocolate but the dark version is too bitter for me. Fortunately I was able to deal these away for other treats.
  • Dots – Rubbery and almost tasteless, these would always stick to my teeth in annoying fashion.  The work it took to get them unstuck was never worth the effort.
  • Good N Plenty – I was fooled by the candy coating on the outside of this capsule shaped candy. The licorice center was a huge disappointment for me.
  • Red Hots – I still do not like Red Hots even after all these years.  Any candy with a cinnamon flavor is banished from my home. Hot and spicy is a flavor for food not candy.

My one goal at Halloween was to come home with none of the above candy in my bag. I obtained plenty of my favorites, but the dreaded enemy candy would always find its way into my bag.

I dont know what “dots” are but love Red Hots….
I agree with you on most of the others especially Butterscotch which has no place at Halloween!

Thanks for the info, but I happen to like 40% of those candies you mentioned. Remember we all have different taste-buds.

It’s fun to read a nice relaxed article, good writing. Butterscotch candies aren’t that bad, you just expect them more from your grandparents’ house not trick or treating.
