Three Easy Ways to Keep Santa Claus Alive

Three different ways to keep your kids believing in old St. Nick.

Do you ever feel like these days kids don’t believe in Santa Claus like they used to? Well, for those of you who really want to make those kids believe, here are a few ways to make your kids really excited about Santa.

#1.  This is one my parents did for my brother and me when we were about six or seven. We had just finished opening all our Christmas presents and were starting to get ready to go visit grandma. Dad went down to start the car outside and then came running back in and told us to hurry outside and take a look on the roof. We did so, and there were two presents on top of our house! We were positive that Santa had dropped them up there on the way down the chimney.

Just get up a little before your kids in the morning and put the presents up on the roof. Then get the kids to come outside and check it out. They’ll be really excited. Kids love when Santa Claus seems so real, and not just something you talk and sing songs about. Make sure you have a sturdy ladder though!

#2. Make reindeer hoof prints in the yard. Tell the kids that the reindeer came down to take a quick break to eat some grass. Reindeer prints aren’t hard to make, and this works even better if the kids made “reindeer food” bags (something we used to make in school, paper bags with oats inside that we decorated with stickers and etc.). To kids, the reindeer are almost as important as Santa. They’re just as much part of the magic, and therefore they love this sort of thing.

#3. Set up a video camera and tell your kids about it. Tell them you want to “catch Santa” or something. Make it up, because you know what your kids will believe best. Then, after the kids are asleep, dress up like Santa and turn the camera on. The next morning you have yourself video “evidence” for your kids, proving to them that Santa is real. Make sure to eat the milk and cookies on the video! It makes the kids feel important, like they played an important part in making Christmas happen.

Well, that’s the basic gist of it. Now, I’m sure you’ll all know when to tell your kids the truth about Santa, but until then, make their Christmas truly magic by adding a little something like these three things. It will give them something special to remember. Merry Christmas!

P.S. Another quick one is don’t wrap the presents you give them in the same paper as the presents “Santa” gives them! Some kids are pretty sharp!
