Top 10 Countdown on Why Hurricanes are Like Christmas

Here you go…the top 10 reasons that hurricanes are like Christmas.

10. It takes hours to hang all those outdoor lights and “Merry Christmas” banners…just like it takes hours to board up the house and write expletive messages to the hurricane.
9. You are buying large quantities of food that you usually don’t eat.
8. You are in the last ditch effort to get the special supplies from a crowded store, and you might have to physically fight someone over the last can of something.
7. Stores find it okay to jack-up the prices of every item on your shopping list.
6. You are blowing the dust off the decorative candles.
5. It is the one time of year that the out of state family bother to call.
4. You get sloppy drunk leading up to it, but everyone understands.
3. You are putting up all the valuables and breakables from the destructive forces of relatives kids and the hurricane.
2. In the days prior, your favorite regularly aired television show is interrupted with “special programming.”
1. At some point, there is going to be a large tree in the house.

Bonus: It leaves you stuck with many unwanted and un-returnable “gifts.”

Hey Jo – thanks for the comparison! I live in a hurricane-prone state (Florida), in Tampa. Hurricanes are like Christmas because school is out!

Very good post. I would never have thought of it. But, then I guess that’s because I live in an area where we aren’t affected by hurricanes.
