True Meaning of Christmas
My own beliefs about what Christmas means, the reasons behind it, and also what to do for Christmas.
The true meaning of Christmas is usually said to be the birthday of Jesus Christ. I am also a Christian however; instead I would like to talk about a non religious meaning to Christmas. This theme is often mentioned in many movies. The true meaning is a sense of love, not for you but for each other.
The love can be shown at Christmas day by giving someone a gift, but this is not true love. The love and spirit of Christmas is about coming together to be one. This is a sensation of being united. Christmas time is an opportunity after Thanksgiving to not only be thankful for a day but for your life. The spirit of Christmas should put everyone in good spirits. Most people usually have a humbug attitude about Christmas.
I’ll give you an example of this. Earlier today I was helping my step dad put together Christmas lights outside. The instructions were confusing, but my step dad was getting aggravated that he couldn’t figure it out. I however was just happy to be putting together Christmas lights. This is also proof that a heart of a child is more pure and in tune with the world than the older generation. Everyone is a kid at heart. The perfect time to let that side show is during Christmas. The society has gotten so wrapped up in the tradition of buying gifts and eating but not really being together. Certainly families get together for Christmas but there isn’t a united feeling among ones. There are often disputes arguments, which is normal. No family is perfect, and never will be. During Christmas time I would think that this is the one day to at least forget all your problems and be thankful and happy to be with family.
The reason you should be happy, is because like many have said, you never know when your last day on earth is. You never know if your grandparents will die tomorrow or Christmas night. So be glad that you can be with your family, and make sure you tell them you love them. This is a strong statement, but no one knows when you will be able to say this before one leaves this earth. Then if you do get to say goodbye, you could not have said it in a better way than I love you, on a great day to say it, Christmas. As a society we always forget about the little things that make life so great. Without all the simplest things in life there could be no major things. First the small things come than the large.
I must the best way do to something with the family is go Christmas caroling. If you aren’t a great singer, that doesn’t matter. If you don’t want to go out, stay home, but put music on and sing with the family. Then the options become if you don’t like music for whatever reason or Christmas music, then you should sit with the family, and have someone either read a Christmas book, or have someone tell stories about their past. This is open to anything but if you want to stay in the Christmas spirit try to stick to Christmas stories. This is often done during dinner, which is another thing. The family should try to have a dinner where everyone is present at the table, and have a great feast. The times like these are often overlooked, as we are all caught up in Santa Clause and presents, but I challenge you this Christmas to be thankful for the simple things in life, especially family, and be happy that there is one day in the year, where you can think and help others to be happy.
