Turkey Day

by Steven Lockett in Holidays, November 6, 2009

Let’s face it Thanksgiving is one of the best holidays of the year. It’s the best seasonal celebration where people can eat without caring about if they break their diet and it’s also a day to be with family, loved ones, and friends.

Be thankful for Turkey Day. It’s a great holiday that involves lots of eating and socializing. Those are two things that many people enjoy doing. Also, Turkey Day is a great day for football and fun. If you’re lucky enough to have snow fall during the time of your Thanksgiving celebration then take the kids outside and play in the snow.

Keep in mind that not everyone on Turkey Day is going to be able to eat and celebrate with the special people in their lives. These people might need assistance for Thanksgiving meals and they might need somebody just to pay them a visit to let them know that they’re appreciated. So this Thanksgiving holiday visit somebody who would benefit from your presence and help those who are in need with food if you can.

Don’t forget the Macy’s Day parade it’s a Thanksgiving tradition that many of us have come to enjoy on Thanksgiving morning. The Macy’s Day parade is the best in the nation and you should tune in to watch at least a half hour of the show if you can.

For some of you who are deciding to go green for your Turkey Day Meal, uh, stick with the traditional way of doing things. For vegetarians, no offense, but let those around you who are not vegetarians eat meat without complaint. Turkey Day is one of the few days that people get to splurge on good, rich, hearty, foods and eating the turkey is the reason why we call it Turkey Day. So let us “gobble, gobble, gobble” that tasty delicious bird up. Ok, that that pun was stupid, but you get the point.

Watch Charlie Browns Thanksgiving special. I know it’s an old school cartoon but it does still appeal to the children in our time as well as the adults. Also, check out the new cartoon shows, that’s if you have young children, Nick Jr and Cartoon Network usually have some great cartoon fun and entertainment for the holidays.

Everybody has their own way of doing things on Turkey Day that makes it special for them. Whatever family traditions that you have established for yourselves enjoy them and make sure that friends and other guest can enjoy them as well.

Make sure you go to sleep at a decent time on Thanksgiving night because the biggest shopping holiday of the year will begin at 5 a.m. the next morning after Turkey Day. It’s called “Black Friday” and if you don’t want to miss out on great deals for Christmas, then you need to get your rest so you can beat the traffic and crowds to get those fantastic specials on gifts.

Have a fun Turkey Day and keep in mind that we all have a lot to be thankful for.
