Shapes:
A wreath does not have to be round and it does not have to be green. Consider some fun and unusual shapes for your door wreath this year. A lovely tree shape wreath is a nice touch for the front door. Or, consider a square or oval shape for an unusual touch. It can also be fun to link more than one wreath together to create a multi layer look. Three different sized smaller wreaths look great linked together to create one larger one. Irregular shapes can also be a festive and unexpected look. Simply think of the wreath as a free for shape and the thoughts will flow.
What To Make A Wreath From:
Here comes the fun part! Forget greenery to make your wreath stand out and be unique. Take a walk outside and see what other natural elements are in abundance. Pine cones, tree branches, stones and mulch can make interesting texture on a wreath. Make a wire form in a the shape of your choice, fill in with a mulch or pine cones and leave it simple or sleek. Or, take the same concept and add small lime green balls to create dramatic contrast and hang with a ribbon on the front door.
If natural elements are not appealing, consider making a wire wreath and spray paint it an unexpected color such as blue, grey or brown. Add a bow from stark white or hot pink and ring in Christmas with a little bling.
Other unconventional elements to shape a wreath from can be almost anything you can imagine. Take corks from wine bottles and use to shape the wreath. Add a bit of tinsel to soften the look and your wreath is done. Use vintage jar lids to create a clever and different wreath. Weave ribbon through the wreath to hang it and the look is unlike any other.
If you have a particular love, hobby or interest consider incorporating it into your wreath this year. If you collect clocks consider making your wreath look like a large clock face. Or perhaps you love reading and collect books. Find a book that is damaged and not worthy of collecting and tear out the pages to create ragged edges. Stuff the book pages into a wire form, spray with shellac and have a wreath that fits your unique personality. Instead of a bow, add streamers of pencils to complete the look.
The basic concept is to eliminate the thought that a wreath has to be green and round! Who are you? What do you like? Reflect yourself in your wreath this Christmas. When someone comes to your home let them know instantly that you are unique, special and filled with Christmas spirit!
