Valentine’s Day: Gifting and Coping
Worried you’ll end up in the dog house on Valentine’s Day? Don’t have much money to spend? Single? No worries!
Showing Some Love For Your Guy
Some people are under the impression that Valentine’s Day is all about the ladies. They sit back, relax, and let their guy pamper and spoil them. I’m not sure what started that ‘tradition’, but as love is a two way street, things that come with it ought to be as well, no? So ladies, you’re gonna have to put on your thinking caps as well!
While more often than not men tend to be more practical than women, it doesn’t necessarily make them lack sentimentality. A love letter or note can go a long way in letting someone know you care. You can inject a bit of creativity in how you deliver such a thing too. For example, if your guy is into techs, geekery, and computers, you can pick up a nice flash drive for him. Rather than deliver that flash drive empty, though, put something on it! A love letter, pictures, installers for programs or apps you know he wants. It’s sweet and practical!
For kicks, you could also pick up some kind of novelty shirt you know he’s been coveting. But please, if you get your guy clothing of any kind, be sure you know it’s something he would like – not something you want to see him in or something you’d rather he wear than what he does now. The key is thoughtfulness!
If your guy is the gaming type, you could try to pick up a game you know he’ll like. A nice thing to do might be to pick up a two player game so the both of you can play. Set up a ‘gaming station’ of sorts. Two controllers, sodas, and delicious snack foods. Even if you’re not big into games, your guy will appreciate you taking an interest in one of his hobbies. If you really wanna surprise him, practice at the game behind his back for a bit, then shock him with your skills. Bonus points if you beat him.
So long as you get a gift relevant to his interests, or do something thoughtful, you should be covered. The tried and true ‘getting something that’s a favorite of his’ is simple, but it works too.
For All You Single Folks
Valentine’s Day is sometimes a day of contempt and scorn by those without a significant other. Sometimes single people might feel down or unloved, but when did love ever become solely connected to having a significant other?
You can celebrate Valentine’s Day with friends, family, or even pets!
Exchange gifts with your friends, or just hang out together if you have no other plans. Take your mother, or grandmother, or another family member out to lunch and spend some time with them. Take Fido on a walk or to a groomer for some pampering.
Of course, don’t forget about yourself! Spoil yourself by getting something you want or doing something fun by yourself. There’s no shame in loving and appreciating yourself!
