Valentine’s Day the Single Way

Without a date on Valentines Day? With the right plans, February 14 can be fun day for singles to enjoy as well.

Every year there’s a day that is more organized than any other holiday known to man — Valentines Day. Filled with Cupid’s arrows, red roses, and more X’s and O’s than necessary, it’s safe to say that Valentines Day is a day for couples and couples only. The only downside to Valentines Day is that those who are single have 24 hours of constant reminder that they do not have a significant other (not to mention the weeks leading up to the holiday). Instead of feeling miserable and devouring a whole quart of Ben & Jerry’s Rocky Road ice cream, there are many alternatives to ease Valentines Day sorrow.

For males that find themselves snuggling up to a pillow instead of a valentine, an alternative to a lonely (and sleepless) night may not be to sleep at all. Instead of wasting a night slumming because you’re alone, host a huge bash of close friends that are single as well. That way your having just as much fun as your “coupled up” friends, but without having to buy expensive gifts.

Males can also maintain their usual routine for Valentines Day. Instead of making a big deal over a day that doesn’t include you, treat Valentines Day as if it were any other day. If it’s Monday and you usually watch Monday Night Football, stick to your natural routine and watch what’s normal. Pretend like it’s your day and not a couple’s day.

Unlike men, women sometimes take being alone on Valentines Day hard. So instead of calling your girlfriends (who probably have significant others) and ragging on your ex-boyfriend, treat yourself to all the things he never treated you to. Take a day off work and indulge yourself to a spa or massage session. Who knows, spoiling yourself in that manner may ease tension of being single on Valentines Day (or other tensions that are caused on days other than February 14).

Women can also shrug off Valentines Day anguish by going shopping. Plan a shopping trip with friends that don’t have prior engagements. Then all of your energy can be focused on an activity that isn’t centered around the holiday. It could be a spree to the largest mall in town or just your favorite store. If your dilemma is being stuck behind a desk at work, on your break shop online. For most women, just looking at apparel items can take their mind off anything (including all their girlfriends receiving chocolate candy and pink stuffed teddy bears)

While Valentines Day once was associated with couples that have more passion for each other than Romeo and Juliet, it is now a holiday every one can enjoy without the help of Cupid’s arrow.

This is not a comment. I am asking for help dealing with being alone on Vday. I Found out on December 23,2008 that by boyfriend of 11 years cheated on me. He is with her know, she is having his child. The reason I am asking for help is because Valentine’s Day is our anniversary. It really hurts.
