Ways to Thank Dad on Father’s Day

by rebecca young in Holidays, May 27, 2009

There are so many little things you can do for dad that will show him how much you love him and you won’t need to break the bank doing so.

What better time to truly show the dad in your life how much you love and appreciate everything he does for your family, then on father’s day. You don’t have to go out and buy him the most expensive golf clubs on the market, although I’m sure that would make him smile too. What I mean are the little things you and your family can do to really make his day special and show him just how much you value him everyday.

Here are a few ways to show your love throughout the day:

  • Make him breakfast in bed: I know this sounds like such a cliché for father’s day, but he will truly appreciate being served his favourite breakfast by his favourite people. Don’t forget to include items like a newspaper, a book he’s reading, his laptop or just the remote control. Let dad sit back relax and enjoy his morning.
  • Make a picnic: If the day is too beautiful to spend indoors take the family outside and enjoy a picnic in your backyard. Pack all of dad’s favourite lunch snacks and enjoy the afternoon with the family. Bring some games that can be played together or anything else you as a family enjoy doing.
  • Movie night:  Why not grab dad’s favourite movie and have a special movie night for him. Pop the popcorn and grab the other snacks dad loves and get comfy. This is a great way to enjoy the evening as a family.
  • Draw a bath: You may wonder why I have included this, but I know for a fact that many men love a bath as much as we women do. So set the mood for him, light the candles, pour the Epson salts and whatever else you love when you take a bath. You will love the look of surprise on his face when you walk him into the bathroom and into his personal spa. Don’t forget to have his towels, robe and slippers close by so he really doesn’t lift a finger.
  • Cook dinner: This one is easy cook all of dad’s favourites including dessert and your sure to make him smile. Make it special have the kids make place cards, menus and a centre piece. He will love all the work the family puts into this. Don’t let him lift a finger including washing the dishes, this day is for him remember.

As you can see this is only a short list to get you thinking about what you feel the father in your life will really appreciate. It’s not the expensive gifts that are remembered years later, it’s the time that was spent the moments had and the laughs shared. Time is the best gift for a family. He will appreciate any little thing that you as a family do for him because it simply means you thought of him and put him first that day.  So get creative this fathers day and really think outside the box and I’m sure that this will be one that will never be forgotten.
