We Love Doughnuts: Let’s Make a Holiday
National Doughnut Day: An odd holiday that’s been around for decades that many of us didn’t even know about!

Oh, how much we love the first Fridayin June. Why, you ask? Why its Nation Doughnut Day, of course.
But where did this strange (yet tasty) holiday come from? Well, all fingers point to the Salvation Army. During World War I & II, the Salvation Army would go out onto the battlefield to provide food for the soldiers, even while fighting. Doughnuts were one of the very popular items on the non-existent menu. They felt that with how tasty they were, that they were great morale boosters, and they were easy and inexpensive. Oh, and the fun part is, is that they cooked them in the soldiers metal helmets!
As far as we know, the restaurants, bakeries, and doughnut shops that commemorate Nation Doughnut Day, are:
- Dunkin’ Donuts: One free doughnut with purchase of a beverage.
- Krispy Kreme: One free doughnut per person, no purchase necessary.
- Fractured Prune: One free Cinnamon-sugar glazed doughnut per customer.
