What is in Store for Us in 2011?
An essay bringing good tidings to everyone with so much faith.
Every new year, we are accustomed to making new year’s resolution, promising ourselves that we will do our best to do good and avoid any kind of wrongdoing. To make this covenant with ourselves real, we do write our new year’s resolutions, hoping that every thing will become better as new year comes. Yet, every year, our promises are broken. How many times do we need to write our new year’s resolutions for us to really change our ways? How many new years do we need for us to fulfill the desired change that we want in our lives? Will it take us 20, 30, 40 or 50 years? Remember, life is very short; hence, if we want something great to happen in our lives, we have to start early for we do not have the luxury of time to fulfill our dreams and aspirations.
This 2011, some of us may ask, what is in store for us this new year? While many are still in limbo, not knowing where to go, some brave men and women are decisive regarding the direction they will take and the destiny they will pursue. Equipped with so much faith, they brave all kinds of trials along the way, sometimes hopping, at other times striding, and somehow even trudging along the path they chose to take. No matter how long the journey will be, they will unceasingly hold onto a beautiful vision that they will be able to reach their destination soon and that they will be able to fulfill their dreams they have set for themselves. Yes, many things might happen. Yes, they may stop at the middle of the journey and give up their dreams altogether. Yes, they may get tired and helpless, losing all the drive to continue, yet, once they look into the bright future ahead, all their tiresome, their helplessness will be gone and it will be replaced by a renewed spirit, rejuvenated with the thought of victory after life’s battles.
So, whoever is asking what is in store in 2011, the answer lies in his hands? Do you believe that we are holding the future in our hands? Yes, you might be questioning me for such a radical truth. But it is true. While God is truly guiding us into the path that He prepares for us, most of the actions should come from us because God has gifted us with the intellect and free will. He cannot just dictate to us on what to do. That’s precisely the reason why some become very successful while others suffer from misery or misfortune. It is not God’s fault that many are poor; it is not God who is to blame for the many misfortunes that happened to humanity. We have to accept that whatever happens in our lives, it is mostly because of us, because of our being stubborn. Hence, the next time we blame God and others for our misfortunes, think again, because most of what really happened happened because of our wrong decisions, our wrong actions. I can enumerate some to prove this stance. Ever remember, flash floods in Leyte and in Manila which killed hundreds of people? What is the root cause of these calamities? Isn’t it men’s greed? Many were engaged in illegal logging which denuded our forests, that’s why when strong storms came, it resulted to heavy flooding which destroyed many lives and properties.
If we ever dream of a progressive and peaceful life, then, we must change our old ways; we must be pro-active by doing what is best not only for ourselves but for others as well.
