Where Did Jesus Go?
Why does our culture purposely distort the meaning of Easter?
Why does our culture purposely distort the meaning of Easter? Children should be taught of the resurrection of Jesus Christ and about God. Why shall we teach children that Easter is about a rabbit, bringing children chocolate and neatly decorated eggs? Is this what our culture, our society in which we live, teaches or most likely brainwashes us to believe. Are people that desperate to make a few extra bucks on a holiday?
How did a day about Jesus turn into a day about a rabbit and chocolate? The resurrection often is seen as a symbol of rebirth or a new life. Eggs are also seen as a new life. The idea of the Easter rabbit comes from ancient pre-Christian symbolism of fertility associated with spring. According to Anglo-Saxon mythology portrays a rabbit entertaining children and brought colored eggs. The Ancient Persians even painted eggs and hid them for children. The Christians saw that these spring practices fell on the day of the resurrection of Jesus Christ and so they decided to include them into the Christian Easter holiday in order to bring more people to Christianity. The idea of chocolate rabbits is a modern twist on the idea of rabbits.
I have yet to walk down the Easter aisles in a store to see anything related to Jesus Christ. It’s all chocolate, candy, eggs, rabbits….. Where did the real meaning of Easter go? Have we forgotten about Jesus Christ, who died for us so that we may be saved?

You need a visit to Cyprus, Easter is their big celebration, it is bigger than Christmas. The whole festival is based on the religion of the Greek Orthodox church, the whole family is involved with the church services and follow Lenten very strictly.

Good points, but let’s not take the chocolate from the children.

Yeah, I’m not saying to take the chocolate away. I think people need to be reminded the real reason about Easter and about God, and not distort it with chocolate and easter eggs. I just don’t want to see God be lost in the ways we once lived our lives and not be passed on for generations to come.
