Who Has a New Year’s Resolution?
Just a small thought on the idea of New Year’s Resolutions.
The old year is gone, and the new year has rung in. And what will it bring us?
Who has made a New Year resolution? What was it?
Obviously, the quest to lose weight will be at the top of the list. I, myself, could gain- or lose?- by joining that particular quest.
But what else?
For some people, a resolution is a very personal thing. Not something to be advertised. A serious resolution.
Now that’s not to say that another person’s promise to lose weight or stop smoking or stop drinking or any of the other myriad personal vices they have isn’t serious. But we must all be truthful. Most of us, when we make a resolution, what’s the first thing we do? We advertise, spread the word, tell anyone who’ll listen. And why?
Because if everyone knows, that makes it that much harder for us to blow it off. It’s an incentive to keep working at whatever we’re trying to accomplish. But would we need that, if we were serious about it in the first place?
I think that the more serious attempts are those that don’t run around crowing to everyone about what they plan to accomplish. Because whether they win or lose, only they will know.
So to all that have vowed to stop biting your nails, or to give up chocolate, or to watch your temper…..
To the serious vows and those promising just for fun- I wish you well, and I hope you are all successful in whatever you set out to do in the coming year.
And remeber….. you only have three hundred and sixty-four days left.
