Why?
This article questions the modern meaning of Christmas, and encourages people to spend time with their families during the Holidays.
Why?
Why? This one word leads off so many unanswerable questions. People ask themselves questions that has no answer. With Christmas only a few days away several of these ‘why’ questions has become more apparent. The question I ask most is this…Why has Christmas become a time of hectic last minute shopping, presents, and crowds.
Why can anyone not do without these materialistic things on Christmas and take the time to get together with their families. Without the presents we could all take the much needed time to just thank God that we can be together as a family with grandparents, parents, and children.
Why do we not take this day to look at the loved ones around us and enjoy the time that we are allotted to be together on this earth. Why? Americans are spoiled in materialistic items that we often times don’t even notice the loved one that has died and is no longer with us this year. How can this happen? Everyone allows materials to fill their hearts and love…true genuine love no longer has the room to creep into our lives.
We have not only forgotten the true meaning of Christmas, but we cannot be happy unless we have it full of wants, and not the basic needs. Why the competition in who can give the greatest gifts, or the most expensive ones? We need to simply escape from this realm of thinking and simply count the Blessings that we have.
If the family can gather together around a table of food, eat till they are no longer hungry, share stories, and ignore the money, the gifts, the crowds, and the hectic holiday shopping rushes, then we would learn how blessed we are to just all be together. Health and happiness are more important and we need to cherish each moment because it only takes a moment to lose a family member and when they are gone it is too late.
Remember the main reason of Christmas and spend time with the loved ones while they are here for us to be with. Christmas cannot be bought with money, nor can it be won by presents, it is a time to gather together as a family. Don’t let this time slip away from you without spending the time to tell your family that you love them because next year you may question…Why you did not and realize that it is too late.
