Why Do We Celebrate Christmas?

Know as we all know one of the main reasons that people celebrate Christmas is because it is the day Jesus was born. But what about other people that celebrate it like atheists? Do they just do it for fun or maybe because Christmas is forced upon people by shops and the media. How many people actually know a reason to celebrate Christmas. One of the reasons other then the birth of Christ is of old St Nick. The true story of Santa Claus begins with St Nicholas, who was born during the third century in the village of Patara. At the time the area was Greek and is now on the southern coast of Turkey. His wealthy parents, who raised him to be a devout Christian, died in an epidemic while Nicholas was still young. Obeying Jesus’ words to sell what you own and give to the poor St Nicholas used his whole inheritance to assist the needy, the sick, and the suffering. He dedicated his life to serving God and was made Bishop of Myra while still a young man. Now this means that one of the reasons atheists celebrate Christmas is actually because of a christian man. What about the other reason. The media forcing christmas to people. If you look in almost any shop youll see lots of christmas offers that have nothing to do with christmas. DFS the sofa company has a christmas sale even though the items it sells are nothing to do with christmas. The only reason for this is to do with the human mind. If you see a sofa on tv for £400 during the summer you might not buy it. But if you see the same sofa for £299 at christmas you would usually go for it. The price doesnt even have to be dropped. Alot of people seem to think that because its christmas everythings cheaper. That to some extent is true but aslong as a shop says christmas sale even if an item is the same price people will buy it. So is this why we celebrate christmas? Really aslong as there is one brand of shop there is going to be christmas sales and aslong as there is someone that loves there god there will be religous events. So next time you have your special dinner or put up your lights just think. What are your reasons for celebrating christmas.
