Why New Year’s Resolution is Not for Me
My not-so New Year’s Resolution.
While some people are busy writing their lists on the whole pages of paper, I couldn’t write any single sentence for my visions and goals. My visions and goals are stuck, not on a pieces of paper but stuck in the sheets of my heart. New Year’s resolutions are good but it doesn’t work for me. I couldn’t glue myself on the prepared list for the upcoming year.
Old habits die hard and waiting for New Year’s to resolve unresolved things for you takes time. How many days are there in one year? 365 days, so you have to wait till the end of the year and start for New Year again, which absolutely too long. I’m sorry to disappoint some people who believe in New Year resolutions but you cannot push me of having one. I do believe that a person can changed or resolved something for oneself everyday.
Even though, other people make the lists to welcome the New Year. They listed more than enough that they could possibly bear or resolved for the coming year. I’m not saying that New Year’s resolution is not good, but if you’re one of those people who can stick to your goals, so be it. I applaud you for making your visions for the coming year succeed. However, to glue your plan and stick to your goals for the year can be very hard. That’s why; it requires discipline in your part.
When I was in primary grade, our teacher in English encouraged us to write a piece of journal entitled, “My New Year’s Resolution” . Now, that I am old enough I hardly believe in New Year’s resolution. Because for me, a person can change at any day as she chooses to. She doesn’t have to wait for another year to come just to resolve on something for herself. Have you heard the saying that says, “Yesterday was history, tomorrow is a mystery and today is a gift”.
In some way, if you have a New Year resolutions, then so be it.

The bad part about them is that many times we end up disappointing ourselves over unrealistic expectations.

I agree with you 100%. I don’t make them either. I live my life one day at a time. I always wonder what each new day with bring. I have heard the saying you ended your article with but you didn’t finish it. The last line is ” Thats why they call it the present”.

You are so right, Mys. If there is something you truly want to accomplish why do you need to wait until a certain time of the year? If you really want to achieve something then go for it! There should be no exceptions.
Nice write!
Happy New Year, Mys!

Good point.Reminds me of Christmas time. All year people act as they will, rude, uncaring, whatever. Then for a few weeks they act like they love everybody& everything. Why can’t they just treat everybody decent all the time?

A very wise article. I agree that we shouldn’t wait until January 1st to start thinking about goals. I think we should all have some short-, medium- and long-term goals though rather than floating from one day to the next; but if I decide on a one-year goal, I’m happy to decide it in the middle of January, or June or whenever.
