nice article. in my country, the Philippines, the kids jump high so they would grow a lot in the new year (as believed). people sprinkle rice with salt and flower petals to drive away evil spirits and bring prosperity. people also wear polka dots and put and jingle coins in their pockets to invite money. lastly, all doors and windows, lights and faucets are opened so that there will be an inward flow of good luck
