100 Million Chinese Farmers Will Move to the City.
MORE than 100 million Chinese farmers will move to urban areas in 2020. These predictions provide new challenges for urban planners.
China now faces a massive wave of urbanization after millions of migrant workers flooding the cities to become workers.
The process of urbanization which then provide the cheap labor that turned out to help China develop into a country with the second strongest economy in the world.
Recently released government report predicted that by 2020 the urban population will be filled at least 800 million people.
Government forecasts are based on a survey of migrant population in 106 cities last year.
The survey found that 20% of the families of migrant workers to spend more money than they get.
And less than half the families of migrant workers who spend their income for health insurance or pension funds.
Some of them are villagers who went to town to look for a better income.
Life in urban areas was not as good as the alleged Chinese migrant workers.
China’s urbanization level is high so far has caused many problems such as the migrants are treated as second class citizens.
Despite living in the city, the immigrant population is still listed as the villagers.
As a result, they do not have a social security system and have to pay dearly just to enter their children into public schools.
So most of them choose not to educate their children.
Unlike their parents, second generation of migrant workers began to understand their rights.
And they began to feel frustrated about the treatment they receive in various cities.
Last June riots broke out in Guangdong Province in southern China.
Riots broke out after rumors about the police who beat to death merchants sidewalk in the middle to bring his pregnant wife.
A number of protests also broke out in various cities of the industrial district shows frustration over the perceived injustices of migrant workers and the increasingly wide gap between the poor and the rich
