The 25th of March is the day to show support for the rights of the unborn children.
Why choose the 25th March?
This memorial was initiated by Pope John Paul II, who chose the 25th of March because it was the date of the Angel’s annunciation to Mary and Jesus of conception and birth. Argentina became the first nation to celebrate such date in 1998. This initiative was followed by Nicaragua, Dominican Republic, Peru and Paraguay. This has now extended worldwide and secular pro-life organizations are also welcomed to honor this date.
Abortion
Abortion is the surgical termination of an unwanted pregnancy. In most developed countries abortion is legal under certain restrictions. For instance, in UK, abortion is legal up to 24 weeks pregnancy. In France, termination of a pregnancy is legal up to 12 weeks upon request. In the States, a woman can have an abortion during the 6 first months and there’s a restriction the last three months. Abortion has been legalized and governments are trying to make things easier for women, the number of abortion worldwide per year is approximately 42 million. Pro-abortion groups defend the women’s right to choose because according to them, it’s their body so it’s their choice regardless of governments policies. These groups also consider that an embryo or foetus do not become a human being until late in the pregnancy. As a result a four months old foetus would not be seen as a person, regardless of the fact that the heart beats from the very beginning of the pregnancy.
Pro-life groups
Abortion is a controversial issue and governments politics have proved to be inefficient. The right to life is a universal right that should be defended from conception to natural death. Unfortunately, modern societies and the increasing feminism find children inconvenient and abortion is the easier way out. According to them, women rights must prevail without any consideration to the unprotected foetus. Pro-life groups were set up to defend life of the unborn.
It is hard to judge someone who makes such a terrible decision as women find themselves in all kind of situations. But one of the reasons for abortion is the disability cleansing. Many women who find out that they are pregnant with a baby that has genetic abnormalities, decide to end with the pregnancy. The improving of the screening for Down’s Syndrome is leading to the condition being wiped out. Some people only want perfect children. Financial incapability or pregnancy resulted from forced sex or rape are some other reasons for abortion. The sad thing is that adoption agencies are loaded with applicants who would be more than happy to adopt all these babies that are killed. At the end of the day abortion is ending the life of a living being who cannot scream for help. Abortion clinics must be doing a booming business.
Life is a gift and pre-born babies should be protected. Women who find themselves in an uncertain situation should receive all kind of help, psychological, financial and emotional. This way, many would not feel pushed to abortion. And unwanted new born babies could be given up for adoption. There are organisations that offer women shelter, financial support and even find them a job. Governments, instead of legislating for abortion they should legislate for all these unborn babies. It’s time we start behaving like real human beings.
