A City’s Water Plight
The highlight of this article is the fact that during summers there is an acute shortage of water in Delhi nad conservation is the only solution to meet the demands.
It’s not communal riots, traffic jams or soaring crime graph that are number one threats to Delhietes. The greatest threat to their life is from a water famine that is raring to happen.
With the population increasing at an alarming rate, the capital, which is already bursting at seams, is experiencing an acute water shortage, particularly in summers…

With the neighbouring states playing water politics and Delhi’s own water table sinking abysmally low and River Yamuna turning to a black trickle, the populace have reasons to panic. To making things worse, the Delhites continue to waste precious drinking water in washing cars, bathing animals as well as in construction work and gardening. This is preposterous and criminal. The Delhi Jal Board is doing precious little to replace or repair leaking water pipes.
Delhi Govt’s much touted Rainwater Harvesting Scheme has come out a cropper due to lack of public awareness and viable technology and bureaucratic apathy.
The need of the hour is to stop the wastage of water and start harvesting and conservation, even recycling of water. The Govt ; NGO’s and the members of the public must join hands to prevent the world fourth most populous city from dying of thirst….!!!!!!
