A Lie That Won’t Fly

On illegal immigration.

As more Americans lose their job, animosity continues to grow for the illegal immigrants within the country.  The often repeated lie, “they do jobs that Americans won’t do”, just doesn’t seem to ring as true as we face darker days.  The finger pointing has begun, and it appears undocumented workers are on the losing side.  Sub-prime mortgages and bad banking policies get the brunt of the blame, but many Americans can’t actually see what these things are.  Illegal immigrants on the other hand, can be seen day in and day out.  Intangible policies just don’t seem to hold the gravity as a single person, or group of people.

For years, nothing has been done to reform the current immigration policy.  While President Bush was in office, he refused to address it.  Later saying that he believed the nation was a caring society, and would welcome people trying to make a better tomorrow for themselves.  The current Secretary of Homeland Security, Janet Napolitano, refused to address the situation while governor of Arizona, and she continues the same course of action in her newly appointed Cabinet seat.  Ms. Napolitano was also been critical of Sheriff Joe Arpaio in his attempt to curb illegal immigration.

Rallies in California have already sprang up overnight to revolt against higher taxes, and laying the blame on the states inability to slow illegal immigration.  Congress continues to criticize illegal immigrant profiling, but the masses continue to get more irate.  A potential powder-keg is getting ready to explode that could turn into an all out race war which California hasn’t seen before.  If the economy shrinks much more than it already has, more accountability will be placed, and immigrants could be on the outside looking in.

The jobs that “Americans won’t do”, has turned into the only jobs left to do.  With a deflating job market, inflating prices, and constricting American dollar, times are looking bleek.  When the comfortable life Americans have come accustomed too isn’t so accomodating anymore, many will be looking for their pound of flesh.  Rising taxes to pay for illegal immigrant consumption will be at the top of the list of unfavorable things Americans seek to rectify.
