A Major Issue

Racism is taken too lightly and needs to be addressed.

Have you heard comments about Obama lately? Maybe somebody making fun of an accent? Or even squinting their eyes and saying “Look I’m Asian!”. All of these are examples of racism which I believe is becoming a major issue in our country as of late. Nobody stops these people when they make these racist slurs, they laugh and lead the next generation to believe it is fine to treat others as less then them.

These people do not realize it hurts others and we all know what bullying, which this can be classified as, leads to. Just think of the Virginia Tech shooting, those boys were bullied and decided to take it out on everyone else. To resolve this issue the next time somebody makes a comment like the examples given, don’t laugh, walk away as to let them know that hurt your feelings or could possibly hurt someone else’s.

You are exactly right! There are all forms in which racism can rear it’s ugly head and all of them are WRONG! This is a despicable trait of mankind and if we try, one by one, we can stomp this down to a minimal but unfortunately we will never get completely rid of it!

    Very good point! God bless.

You’re right, being a minority, I used to take racist jokes and comments seriously when I was young but as I got older I learned to live with it and it doesn’t bother me any more when people say things on my race. It does still bother a lot of people and I don’t let people I hang out with make racist jokes for fear of offending those who are not used to it or don’t like it. Debra is right though, it’s never ok.

Stupid people make stupid statements. That is what racism is all about. A problem that has plagued our country for hundreds of years. Nice article.
